Fantasy Analysis
Scott Gomez got credit for the game-winner and scored for the first time since Feb. 5, 2011. He had three shots on net and won six of nine face-offs, so it was a solid game all around. (Updated 02/09/2012).
02/06/2012 09:31 Blue Line Buzz: Gagner too good to be true
Edmonton's Sam Gagner had a torrid Week 17 in Fantasy Hockey, but Dan Pennucci says it's simply an unsustainable pace for the talented but inconsistent Oiler in this week's Blue Line Buzz.
02/05/2012 16:46 Canadiens, top-star Price blank Jets
Carey Price made 23 saves for his third shutout of the season, Tomas Plekanec had a goal and an assist and the Montreal Canadiens ended a three-game losing streak with a 3-0 win over the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday.
02/04/2012 16:49 Caps blank Habs as Ovechkin returns
Tomas Vokoun made 30 saves for his third shutout of the season and Alexander Semin scored on the second of Washington's two penalty shots in the Capitals' 3-0 win over the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday.
The burden of a large contract is what Gomez is dealing with in Montreal. At an average annual value of $7 million, the expectation is that Gomez should produce more than 38 points and a minus-15. Montreal coach Jacques Martin didn't have the available horses to sit Gomez or reduce his minutes in 2010-11, nor will he this season. Martin needs Gomez to play better and smarter hockey. He'll continue to skate on one of the top two lines, most often with Brian Gionta and Max Pacioretty. (Updated 10/4/11)
