The 32-year-old played for a month with the torn ligament in his knee, but following the Ducks' elimination from the playoffs last week, he decided to go under the knife. Francois Beauchemin, who put up 24 points (6G, 18A) and a plus-19 rating during the regular season, hopes to return in time for the start of next season. (Updated 5/20/13).

Teemu Selanne scored the tiebreaking power-play goal early in the third period, Jonas Hiller made 21 saves, and the Anaheim Ducks returned to the postseason with a 3-1 victory against the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday night.
Francois Beauchemin is a shot-blocking machine. But both he and Cam Fowler struggled miserably on their own last year and the grizzled vet turned in a minus-14 performance. Yes, some of it was pure bad luck but not all of it was. He'll be counted on heavily this year as the go-to shutdown guy, which means lots of blocked shots and hits, but not so many points.
