Kaberle nets sixth goal Friday: Maple Leafs D Tomas Kaberle scored a goal during Friday's game against the Devils. Kaberle got Toronto on the scoreboard early in the second period with Rob Niedermayer off for slashing. The defenseman's shot from the left point hit off the stick of Jay Pandolfo and fluttered into the upper part of the net for his sixth goal. It was his first score in nine games. | Fantasy Analysis |
Kaberle hasn't had a multi-assist game since Nov. 23, but that hasn't slowed his production down. He is still finding ways to contribute. Kaberle isn't likely to be traded unless something drastic happens in the next month. He continues to be a high-end Fantasy option as a top puck-moving blueliner. (Updated 02/05/2010).

| After months of speculation about a potential trade, Maple Leafs defenseman Tomas Kaberle can finally rest easy. Toronto had entertained the notion of dealing Kaberle since the 2008-09 trade deadline had the price been right but they were asking too much. Toronto thought they had a deal in place at June's draft, but a miscommunication with the Bruins axed the trade. The Maple Leafs were set to get Phil Kessel and a first-round pick, but Boston thought they were getting Kaberle and the first-round selection. Nonetheless, general manager Brian Burke did his wheeling-and-dealing and moved Pavel Kubina to Atlanta instead of Kaberle. The 31-year-old defenseman had a rough '08-09 season due to injury. He dressed for just 57 games, totaling 31 points (four goals). It was his first campaign in four years without at least 40 assists and 50 points. Kaberle also wasn't always on the same page with first-year coach Ron Wilson. However, in order for Toronto to have success in 2009-10, they need a happy and healthy Kaberle. Consider the Maple Leafs' third all-time scoring defenseman a No. 3 Fantasy option Draft Day. (Updated 8/19/09) |
