Oilers' LaBarbera Clears Waivers
LaBarbera cleared waivers Tuesday, Tim Wharnsby of CBC reports. No team was willing to take a gamble and pick up LaBarbera after he posted a 3.69 GAA and .858 save percentage over six games with the Oilers. With Ilya Bryzgalov now in the fold in addition to the presence of Devan Dubnyk and Richard Bachman on the active roster, LaBarbera looks to be no better than the fourth-best goalie option in the organization. It's not been determined yet whether or not he'll accept an assignment to AHL Oklahoma City.

Oilers' LaBarbera Placed On Waivers
LaBarbera was placed on waivers by the Oilers on Monday.LaBarbera is the latest change in a re-shuffling effort by the Oilers to shore up issues defensively that have happened this season. He has a 1-3-0 record with a 3.69 GAA and an .858 save percentage in six games. With the Oilers bringing in Ilya Bryzgalov at goalie, LaBarbera could be headed to the AHL instead if he clears waivers.
Ilya Bryzgalov on time with Flyers: 'I will write the book'
When will we hear about what happened with Ilya Bryzgalov in Philadelphia? When he writes the book after signing with a team in a city that's like the North Pole.
|Jason LaBarbera will assume the role that Nikolai Khabibulin had last season that of veteran backup to Devan Dubnyk. LaBarbera played quite well for Phoenix last year with a 2.64 GAA and .923 SV% for the defensively tight, but offensively-challenged Coyotes. Now he goes to a team that is the polar opposite and that is often a recipe for trouble. Still, LaBarbera could challenge for the starting role if he were to play well and Dubnyk were to falter. The Oil doesn't necessarily see Dubnyk as their long-term solution, so you just never know. Handcuff them to start, but be ready to snag LaBarbera off the wire in shallow leagues if the sands shift quickly out West. (Updated 8/12/13) |
