04/03/2013 00:58 Coyotes start big homestand with win over Kings
Jason LaBarbera stopped 39 shots, Keith Yandle scored his second goal late in the third period and the Phoenix Coyotes opened a critical homestand with a 3-1 win over the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday night.
03/28/2013 23:10 Coyotes score six in first period, ease past Predators
Radim Vrbata had two goals and an assist and Rostislav Klesla added four assists and the Phoenix Coyotes scored six times in the opening period to cruise to a 7-4 victory against the Nashville Predators on Thursday night.
03/28/2013 00:06 Koivu scores in OT as Wild extend win streak to seven
Mikko Koivu scored at 2:43 of overtime to give Minnesota a 4-3 comeback victory over Phoenix on Wednesday night, extending the Wild's winning streak to seven and the Coyotes' skid to seven.
While Jason LaBarbera certainly had the opportunity of his career to win a starting job last year, it became clear early on why the Coyotes rolled with Mike Smith. LaBarbera's 2.54 GAA and .912 save percentage certainly weren't terrible, especially in a relief role, but his 3-9-3 record did little to indicate he'd be able to assume a full-time role. Smith will probably have a long leash this season, so we wouldn't expect to see much of LaBarbera at all. (Updated 8/14/12)
