Legace blows huge lead vs. Thrashers: Rich Peverly scored the fourth of Atlanta's five third-period goals with 6:03 remaining to help the Thrashers rally for a 6-4 victory over Manny Legace and the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday night. On a seemingly harmless rush, Bryan Little passed the puck back to Peverly, who found open space and snapped it over Legace's shoulder for the winner. Atlanta had scored three goals in 2:39 span to tie it at 4 after trailing 4-1 coming into the third. Legace made 28 saves against the team that cut him during training camp.

Legace has lost his last three starts and Friday's performance just goes to show you how far he has fallen in his NHL career. We wouldn't be shocked if Carolina let him go as soon as Cam Ward is healthy. Legace remains a stopgap Fantasy option. The Hurricanes TG is a low-end option.

| Manny Legace faced a harsh reality in 2008-09 that he might no longer be cut out for the NHL game. Legace began the season as St. Louis' starting goalie, but when he suffered a freak lower-body injury -- as a result of slipping on a ceremonial red carpet laid out on the ice for former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin -- he never seemed to fully recover and eventually found himself in the minors. The 36-year-old veteran was 13-9-2 with a 3.18 GAA and .885 save percentage in 29 games with the Blues before his February demotion. Legace seemed to regain his form in the minors, posting a 14-7-1 record with 2.00 GAA and .935 save percentage. Still, he received no recall and is still without a NHL team heading into 2009-10. Legace could end up in a situation where he is a backup goalie to begin the season, but until that happens he has little to no Fantasy appeal. (Updated 8/20/09) |
