McDonald was slowed a bit in mid-January by a lower-body injury. But now that he is healthy, he is back to producing on a regular basis. The Blues are beginning to hit their stride under interim coach Davis Payne and that means good news for McDonald, who has the potential to be a viable Fantasy option down the stretch. | When we talk about Andy McDonald's season in 2008-09, we will likely still be talking about the season that could have been if the Blues' forward didn't miss half of it battling a broken ankle. From the day training camp opened last season, McDonald was in the zone. He had a NHL-high 13 points in the preseason and totaled six goals and 18 points in his first 16 regular-season games before going down with the broken ankle in November. McDonald wasn't that explosive since his career season in 2005-06 with the Ducks, in which he totaled 34 goals and 85 points in 82 games. When McDonald finally made his long-awaited return in February, he really didn't miss a beat and provided St. Louis with an energetic presence as the team made a late push into the playoffs. McDonald posted 26 points (nine goals) in 30 games after returning to the lineup Feb. 10. He had points in 28 of his 46 games on the year and finished with 44 points and a minus-13 rating. He notched 14 multi-point games and still finished sixth on the team in points. McDonald signed a four-year extension with St. Louis in February and should continue to be a top offensive presence in 2009-10. He should be considered a viable No. 3 or No. 4 Fantasy forward with point-per-game potential. (Updated 8/17/09) |
