Samuelsson dropped to third line: The Sports Xchange reports Canucks RW Mikael Samuelsson has been hot since being left off the Swedish Olympic team, recording nine goals and five assists in the 15 games since the Dec. 27 snub. But it wasn't enough to prevent him from being dropped off the second line Thursday in Ottawa, as Pavol Demitra moved up in his place alongside Ryan Kesler and Mason Raymond. (Updated 02/05/2010).

| Fantasy Analysis |
Samuelsson has already tied his goals total from 2008-09 with 19 scores. He is also on pace to set a new career high in goals, with his previous best being 23. He has done an admirable job in his first year with Vancouver, but Samuelsson still seems stuck in between a second- and third-line role. He is more of a low-end Fantasy start since he is not a regular multi-point threat. (Updated 02/05/2010).

| Had Mikael Samuelsson maintained the torrid pace that began his 2008-09 season, he might have landed more than a three-year, $7.5 million contract from the Canucks in the offseason. Still, the 32-year-old forward got a pretty sweet deal and goes from one contender (Detroit) to another top Western Conference team. Samuelsson burst out of the gate last season with five goals and 21 points in 23 games. Unfortunately, he didn't sustain after a 13-point November. Samuelsson made it higher than four points in a month just once the rest of the way. He finished with his second straight 40-point campaign and 19 goals, the second-best mark of his career. Samuelsson has maintained 20-plus assists and 30-plus points in four straight seasons. Samuelsson should be a key contributor on the power play and chew up about 15 minutes per game in his first season with the Canucks, but the Swede still has low-end Fantasy appeal.
