Turco claims third shutout of season: Stars G Marty Turco continued his nice run of play as he made 34 saves in Saturday's 4-0 shutout of the Coyotes.

| Fantasy Analysis |
Turco has allowed just three goals over this last three starts and is either really ramping his play up to try and increase his trade value. He didn't exactly played elite NHL teams during Fantasy Week 18 (Feb. 1-7) though, so don't get too excited yet. Turco's next game will be against the Blackhawks, which should be a great test of how well he's seeing the puck. View the veteran goalie as a low-end No. 2 Fantasy option in deeper leagues for Week 19 (Feb. 8-14), but definitely a risky option. The Stars TG has similar value.

Turco earns shutout as Stars end Coyotes' six-game win streak
Marty Turco made 34 saves for his 39th career shutout, rookie Jamie Benn had his first two-goal game, and the Dallas Stars snapped the road-weary Phoenix Coyotes' season-best six-game winning streak with a 4-0 victory Saturday.

Stars overcome two-goal deficit to beat Flames in shootout
Loui Eriksson scored in the third round of the shootout, goalie Alex Auld was perfect in all three rounds, and the Dallas Stars rallied from a two-goal deficit for a 4-3 victory over the slumping Calgary Flames on Wednesday.

| The 2008-09 version of Marty Turco was definitely something we were not used to seeing. Although he did win 30-plus games for sixth straight season and appeared in a career-high 74 games, it certainly wasn't all roses for the veteran netminder. He started the season with just seven wins in 21 appearances and had a GAA well over 3.00 through November. Former coach Dave Tippett put plenty of the blame on Turco and that finally seemed to light a fire under the eight-year vet. He won a season-high eight times in December and had 15 victories over his next 24 appearances. The old, reliable Turco was back in net. But then the late-season decline began, and when it was all said and done Turco had a career-worst 31 losses. He also had the worst goals-against-average (2.81) and save percentage (.898) in his career. Turco admitted the extra workload can't happen again in 2009-10 if the Stars want to be successful. The 34-year-old netminder did set a franchise record for a goalie by appearing in 32 games straight and that's why Alex Auld was added in the offseason to help lessen the load. Turco's heydays are probably in the past, so view him more as a high-end No. 2 Fantasy goalie Draft Day. The Stars TG is also a No. 2 option. (Updated 8/17/09) |
