Scott Stevens leaves Devils' coaching staff
Scott Stevens will not be back on the bench for the Devils this season as an assistant coach after leaving the team's coaching staff. GM Lou Lamoriello says the former defenseman's departure is a "personal decision."
Core Values: Devils long on experience with veteran nucleus
The New Jersey Devils have long been dependent on experience and that won't change in 2014-15, but Cory Schneider getting more starts should bring improvement.
|One of several young defensemen who saw action for New Jersey last season, the former University of Michigan star played the most out of the budding blueliners as he was able to adapt defensively more quickly than teammate Eric Gelinas. Jon Merrill grabbed two goals and 11 points in 52 contests last season and averaged 19:14 as a rookie. The Devils would like him to contribute more offensively, but he won’t be a liability in his own zone, something the Devils find more valuable. Merrill’s role on the team likely will increase this season and he’s worth a look in very deep keeper leagues. (Updated 8/13/14) |
