Devils Move Merrill To IR
Merrill (arm) was placed on injured reserve Thursday, Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record reports.Merrill had ruled out from playing in the Devils' next two road games against the Blues and Red Wings, so the Devils just decided to move him to IR to open up a roster spot for another player temporarily. The Devils will be able to stash Merrill on IR retroactively to Nov. 1, which will allow him to be activated in time for Monday's game against the Bruins in the event he's ready to go by that point.

Devils' Merrill Out With Injury Tuesday
Merrill will be held out of Tuesday's lineup with an undisclosed injury, Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record reports. It's not known if Merrill sustained the ailment at some point during Saturday's win over the Blue Jackets or in a practice over the last couple of days, but more details should emerge on his condition in the near future. Eric Gelinas will reenter the lineup in his stead, joining Adam Larsson on the Devils' third pairing.
|One of several young defensemen who saw action for New Jersey last season, the former University of Michigan star played the most out of the budding blueliners as he was able to adapt defensively more quickly than teammate Eric Gelinas. Jon Merrill grabbed two goals and 11 points in 52 contests last season and averaged 19:14 as a rookie. The Devils would like him to contribute more offensively, but he won’t be a liability in his own zone, something the Devils find more valuable. Merrill’s role on the team likely will increase this season and he’s worth a look in very deep keeper leagues. (Updated 8/13/14) |
