Rangers' Fast Won't Play Saturday
Fast (knee) will not return to the Rangers' lineup Saturday against the Flyers, Steve Zipay of Newsday reports.Fast is rapidly closing in on a return, but coach Alain Vigneault suggested after Saturday's morning skate that the forward needed one more practice Sunday before the team would feel comfortable inserting him back in the lineup. Assuming Sunday's session goes well, look for Fast to make his first game appearance since Feb. 7 when the Rangers take on the Predators on Monday.
Rangers' Fast Closing In On Return
Fast (sprained knee) skated in a regular jersey at Thursday's morning skate, Newsday's Steve Zipay reports.Fast had been able to skate in a non-contact fashion over the preceding few days. With Fast beginning to increase his involvement, coach Alain Vigneault said the forward would be about "one or two practices away" from receiving clearance to play. In accordance with that, Fast's return could come Saturday against the Flyers, but Monday's tilt with the Predators is probably a more realistic target.
Rangers' Fast (Knee) Skates Sunday
Fast (knee) skated in a non-contact jersey Sunday morning, Steve Zipay of Newsday reports.Fast has been out since early February with a knee strain, but appears to be progressing. He's expected to be a full participant in practice this week, which could indicate his return is on the horizon.
Rangers' Fast Makes Progress
Coach Alain Vigneault noted that Fast (sprained right knee) should resume skating "within the next week," northjersey.com reports.Fast -- who last suited up on Feb. 7 -- was riding a stationary bicycle on Thursday, a sign of progress, but based on the report, the forward's return to the Rangers' lineup is not imminent.
|Although not considered to be the cream of NHL prospects crop, Jesper Fast has certainly earned praise as one of the Rangers' most promising forwards in a weakened pipeline. In between collecting 17 goals, 17 assists with a plus-14 through 48 games with Hartford of the AHL, Fast found himself on a short list of players on call to New York last season. Although he was shutout in 11 regular season games, he made enough of an impression for head coach Alain Vigneault to trust him with three post-season appearances. Headed into training camp, Fast will once again find himself on a short list of players with a shot at filling the void left by personnel changes in the off-season. (Updated 8/13/14) |
