The Buffalo Sabres have placed forward Ales Kotalik and defenseman Shaone Morrisonn on waivers, but haven't written either veteran player out of their plans yet.
The Sabres added Morrisonn last summer in their quest for a physical defenseman. He served that role well, but the end of his season was de-railed by a concussion and news about how well has recovered such a tenuous injury has not been made clear this offseason. The Sabres seem to be going in a different direction on defense for 2011-12, and it's very unclear where Morrisonn fits into those plans. (Updated 8/16/11)
