| Fantasy Analysis |
Elliott's owners who benched him for Fantasy Week 19 (Feb. 8-14) after reading the Sun report won't be too happy to see this announcement by coach Cory Clouston, who doesn't announce his starting goalie until gameday. The Sens do play four times in the scoring period though, so there was always a good chance Elliott would get a couple of starts, it not more. Elliott remains a decent No. 2 Fantasy goalie for now along with the Senators TG, while Leclaire is more of a No. 3 option. (Updated 02/09/2010).

| Even though he was on injured reserve at the 2008-09 trade deadline that didn't stop Ottawa from swinging a deal for Columbus goalie Pascal Leclaire. The goalie's Blue Jackets career came to a sad end due to the emergence of Steve Mason and a nagging ankle issue -- one of many ailments that plagued the oft-injured goalie during his tenure with the club. After a superb 2007-08 season, in which he finished second in the league in shutouts (nine) and seventh in goals-against-average (2.25), Leclaire’s 2008-09 campaign never got on track (4-6-1, 3.83 GAA, .867 save percentage) as an ankle problem bugged him for months after he initially was hurt in late October. He ended up having season-ending surgery and that opened the door for Mason to swoop in. Once Columbus realized Leclaire had no future with the club, they put him on the trade block and Ottawa swung a deal. Leclaire has the inside track on the No. 1 job in Ottawa over Brian Elliott, but he is clearly a risky pick because of his injury history. Take a shot with him as a No. 2 Fantasy goalie with decent upside and just cross your fingers that he stays off injured reserve. The Senators TG is also a No. 2 Fantasy option. (Updated 8/20/09) |
