Heatley has 9th career hat trick: Dany Heatley scored three times, Joe Thornton recorded his 600th NHL assist, and the San Jose Sharks beat the Philadelphia Flyers 6-3 on Friday. Heatley notched his second hat trick of the season, and the ninth of his career. Heatley helped create his first goal after picking up a loose puck along the boards and dishing it to Thornton before skating to the net. Thornton split two defenders and put the puck on Heatley's stick in front of an open net 50 seconds into the middle period. Heatley's short-handed goal 8:41 into the third period was a near duplicate. He completed his hat trick and gave the Sharks a 5-3 lead with a power-play goal with 7:16 left in the game. | Fantasy Analysis |
Heatley leads the NHL with 17 goals and has been a perfect fit for Todd McLellan's fast-paced system. Heatley does deserve some criticism for demanding a trade out of Ottawa, but he just didn't feel like a perfect fit for Cory Clouston's system. He is in a good place with San Jose and it shows in his numbers. Heatley remains a must-start Fantasy option. (Updated 11/21/2009).

| It finally happened. After months of wanting to be traded, left wing Dany Heatley got his wish in mid-September as the Senators traded the former All-Star forward to the Sharks. Heatley had wanted out of Ottawa since the end of last season after he felt he was serving a diminished role. The Senators did have a deal in place earlier in the summer to trade Heatley to Edmonton, but he refused to waive his no-trade clause. It seemed Heatley was stuck in Ottawa before general manager Brian Murray finally caved on his demands and took the best deal possible, picking up Milan Michalek and Jonathan Cheechoo in the process. Heatley did have his struggles in 2008-09 under coach Craig Hartsburg and then Cory Clouston. Heatley totaled just 39 goals and 72 points in 82 games. He failed to reach 40 goals for the first time in four seasons and has seen his point-production drop the last two seasons after totaling a career-high 105 in 2006-07. It's easy to see Heatley's frustrations and why he wants a fresh start. Heatley remains a high-end Fantasy forward since San Jose is a top contender and offensive squad. (Updated 9/13/09) |
