Injury-free Spezza on scoring spree: Senators C Jason Spezza scored twice, added an assist and finished at plus-3 on Wednesday against the Sabres. After opening the scoring 13:38 into the second period, Spezza gave the Senators a 2-0 lead six minutes into the third. He beat goalie Ryan Miller with a bad-angle shot from the lower right circle. Spezza has scored in seven consecutive games, including five since returning from a right knee injury. He has eight goals in that seven-game span. (Updated 02/03/2010).

| Fantasy Analysis |
We knew something had to give earlier in the year when Spezza was mired in a horrible scoring slump and being outperformed by the likes of Mike Fisher. It proved to be a nagging back injury limited Spezza's on-ice performance. But once he was past that ailment, then he suffered a knee injury. Spezza made a quicker than expected return from the MCL injury and hasn't stopped scoring since lacing up the skates. It's safe to start Spezza in all Fantasy formats again. (Updated 02/03/2010).

| Sometimes we forget that Jason Spezza is only 26 years old since he has been such a productive forward over the last few seasons for the Senators. The second pick in the 2001 NHL draft has totaled 148 goals and 418 points in 404 career games. He has been a point-per-game player and that's quite a NHL feat. Spezza did have a down year by his standards in 2008-09, but it wasn't entirely his fault. Ottawa got off to a slow start thanks to poor coaching from Craig Hartsburg. Once he was fired and replaced by Cory Clouston, the Senators got back to work. Spezza had 35 points (14 goals) in his last 35 games, including a season-high 18 points in March. Spezza had 32 goals and 73 points in 82 games, but he fell way short after totaling a career-high 92 points in 2007-08. He does have three straight 30-goal seasons and tied a career-high with 13 power-play goals last season. He also won 53.3 percent of his faceoffs (787 for 1,477). Senators general manager Bryan Murray raved this offseason about Spezza's development and feels he will only get better because of his strong work ethic. We can only hope as Fantasy owners. Spezza is still one of the best centers in the NHL and remains a must-own Fantasy forward. Having to play for Clouston out of the gate in 2009-10 should help him get back on track.
