Fantasy Analysis
Ilya Bryzgalov will not want to spend too much time reflecting on what should have been in these playoffs, as he let some truly atrocious goals through, though the Flyers' wide-open style certainly didn't offer much assistance. Starting next season with a clean slate seems likely to do the Russian netminder -- not to mention his team -- some good. Remember, this is a rebuilding project for the Flyers; they were really never expected to be here in the first place. (Updated 05/08/2012).
05/23/2012 12:12 Rate the NHL Rumor: Flyers will look for a new backup goalie
Forget about the No. 1 goalie in Philadelphia, like it or not that is and will remain Ilya Bryzgalov. But what about his backup, Sergei Bobrovsky; will the Flyers look to upgrade there?
The Flyers' signature move of the offseason involved Bryzgalov, whose signing brings the veteran $51 million and a heap of expectations and pressure. Bryzgalov earned his payday by being in the league's top-10 in wins (36) save percentage (.921) and shutouts (7) for the Coyotes a year ago. The Flyers have experienced backups in Sergei Bobrovsky and Michael Leighton, but there's no doubt that Bryzgalov will work between the pipes on a regular basis. He's used to the workload, having played in at least 65 games in each of the past three seasons with Phoenix. (Updated 10/4/11)
