| Fantasy Analysis |
Gionta finished January with nine points in 13 games, which isn't a huge haul, but it is his most since coming over from the Devils. He remains worth using in most leagues and hopefully his production will pick up a little the rest of the season. (Updated 01/30/2010).

| After seven successful seasons and 312 points (152 goals) in 473 games with the Devils, right winger Brian Gionta is ready for a new challenge with the Canadiens. New Jersey couldn't afford Gionta's price tag in the offseason, so the 30-year-old forward inked a five-year deal with Montreal and a chance to reunite with former Devils center Scott Gomez, who spent the last two seasons with the Rangers. Gionta had his first 40-assist season in 2008-09 since totaling a career-high 41 helpers in 2005-06. He also had a career-high 48 goals and 89 points in '05-06, primarily playing on a line with Gomez. That was half the allure for the Canadiens as Gionta didn't manage more than 60 points the last three seasons. He did reach 20 goals in '08-09 for the fifth straight season, so it's not like he has been totally inept. It has also hurt Gionta the last few seasons that New Jersey moved him out from in front of the net on the power play to the side, so he has missed many chances at garbage goals. Gionta has the chance to help anchor the top line in Montreal with Gomez and Michael Cammalleri, so the Habs are excited to kick off the 2009-10 season. Treat Gionta more like a No. 5 Fantasy forward Draft Day, but there is clearly potential here for him to have a huge season. (Updated 8/19/09) |
