Scuderi leaves game with illness: Kings D Rob Scuderi left Monday's game against the Ducks with flu-like symptoms. He had no points in 9:49 of ice time and finished at even. He has no points in his last seven games.

Scuderi missed some time in November and early December with a lower-body injury, but he hasn't had a setback in that regard. Scuderi has no goals in 50 games and has only seven assists. We are not shocked by Scuderi's low offensive output because we have seen this before. He has always been more of a defensive stopper in his career. Scuderi has little Fantasy value in standard leagues, but is a nice option in leagues that reward heavily for short-handed stats when healthy.

| Help win a Stanley Cup, land a big contract. That's the formula defenseman Rob Scuderi used to earn a four-year deal from the Kings in the offseason. Scuderi was instrumental in the Penguins' run to the Stanley Cup in 2008-09, and when they wouldn't pony up the money to keep him, Los Angeles lured the 30-year-old defenseman to the West Coast. Scuderi posted career highs in assists (15), points (16) and plus-minus (23) last season. He led the Pens in plus-minus and blocked shots (164). He also totaled a career-high 306 short-handed minutes. Scuderi is as good of a defender as you are going to find in the NHL. He doesn't have a lot of Fantasy appeal in standard leagues, but is a nice option in leagues that reward heavily for short-handed stats. (Updated 8/17/09) |
