The Capitals have been kicked in the gut so many times in this series and have responded every time. They responded with perhaps their best game of the series in Game 6 and forced a winner-take-all game on Saturday in New York.
05/09/2012 22:19 Capitals bounce back, force Game 7
Alex Ovechkin rebounded from a rare zero-shot performance by scoring after 88 seconds Wednesday night, Braden Holtby made 30 saves, and the Washington Capitals recovered from a potentially devastating loss by beating the top-seeded New York Rangers 2-1 to force a Game 7 in the Eastern Conference semifinal.
05/07/2012 22:50 Rangers top Caps in OT, lead 3-2
Marc Staal scored a power-play goal 1:35 into overtime after Brad Richards tied it in the dying seconds of regulation to lift the New York Rangers to a stunning 3-2 victory over the Washington Capitals in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference semifinals Monday night.
05/07/2012 22:33 Rangers pull off stunning Game 5 comeback thanks to Joel Ward penalty
The Rangers were less than 30 seconds away from losing Game 5 and falling behind the Capitals 3-2 in the series. Then Joel Ward took a double-minor and the Rangers scored with 6.6 seconds left to tie it before winning on the power play in overtime.
Ward got a lot of notice this offseason as he showed up big in the playoffs. He is another net front presence, who is quick on his skates. It's hard to imagine, however, where he will fit in with all the talent this team has on offense. Ward never has put up over 35 points in a season, but he has the potential to put up 50 points on a high-powered offense like this if he's used in the right role. He could be a sleeper pick come draft day. (Updated 10/4/11)
