Wings deal Leino to Flyers for Tollefsen, '11 draft pick
The Detroit Red Wings traded forward Ville Leino to Philadelphia on Saturday for defenseman Ole-Kristian Tollefsen and the Flyers' fifth round pick in the 2011 draft.

| Looking to add some blue-line depth in the offseason, the Flyers chose Ole-Kristian Tollefsen as the guy they feel could help shore up their defense. The Norwegian defenseman inked a one-year deal in July after he passed a physical. Tollefsen was limited to 19 games last season with Columbus because of a pair of knee surgeries. A 2002 third-round pick, Tollefsen's career has been marred by injuries. He has missed 94 of 164 games the last two seasons with Columbus. When he's been in the lineup, Tollefsen has been a physical force, totaling 273 penalty minutes in 145 games. He has 26 fighting majors in that span. "Ole is a defenseman with size (6-2, 211 pounds) and defends very well," Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren said. "At 25 years old, he is an ideal fit to the core of our team." Unless the Flyers make a trade, Tollefsen is going to open the year as the team's seventh defensemen. He is not on the ice for his offense and is merely a flier in leagues that reward heavily for PIM and short-handed stats. (Updated 8/18/09) |
