General manager Don Maloney made the announcement before Sunday's game against the Dallas Stars. | Fantasy Analysis |
The 26-year-old right wing has a team-leading 18 goals in 49 games this season. He has been playing his best hockey since December with 11 goals and 20 points in his last 24 games. The injury couldn't come at a worse time. Usually, it takes players 4-6 months to recover from the injury, so Upshall is likely done for the 2009-10 Fantasy season. (Updated 01/31/2010).

| Scottie Upshall might have finally found a situation that suits him well. The 2002 first-round pick (sixth overall) landed with his third NHL team at the 2008-09 trade deadline when the Coyotes added him to the roster in a deal with the Flyers. It was the second time in his career he was traded, and how many times has that happened with a top-10 talent like Upshall? He finally seemed to have found his offensive groove with the Coyotes, totaling eight goals and five assists in 19 games after the trade. He had a career-high 15 goals, 19 assists and 34 points in 74 games last season, and still didn't forget his gritty two-way play with 89 penalty minutes and 94 hits. Upshall re-signed with Phoenix for one year and hopes to continue his progress in the desert. Upshall can definitely be a Fantasy sleeper heading into 2009-10, but is more of a low-end Fantasy option and flier in leagues that reward heavily for PIM Draft Day. (Updated 8/20/09) |
