Christensen has been making the most of his top-line time lately, but he's got a long way to go before becomes relevant in anything but deeper leagues. Just continue to keep an eye on his stats over the next couple of weeks.

| The Atlanta Thrashers had big plans for Erik Christensen heading into the 2008-09 season. They needed a top-line center to play alongside Ilya Kovalchuk and first-year coach John Anderson targeted Christensen as the guy Atlanta could count on. Unfortunately, Christensen struggled to adapt to the role and was later slowed by a shoulder injury. He plummeted down the Thrashers' depth chart and eventually off of it. Atlanta got rid of Christensen by trading him to Anaheim at the March deadline. With the pressure off to be a star center and finally back at 100 percent, Christensen fit right in with Anaheim. He had two goals and nine assists in 18 games with the Ducks, as well as winning 65.6 percent (40 of 61) of his faceoffs in the last 11 games. His late-season surge was enough for Anaheim to bring Christensen back in 2009-10. Christensen, who had 28 points in 64 games in '08-09, had offseason shoulder surgery but should be ready for training camp. Consider him a low-end Fantasy forward in standard formats and a potential flier in leagues that reward heavily for faceoff stats. (Updated 8/17/09) |
