Jovo, Michalek activated by Coyotes: The Coyotes have activated defensemen Ed Jovanovski and Zbynek Michalek off injured reserve. Jovanovski, a five-time NHL all-star, has five goals and eight assists in 16 games, making him the leading scorer among Phoenix defensemen. He has missed the last eight games because of a lower-body injury. Michalek, with a goal and four assists in 15 games, sat out the last nine games, also because of a lower-body injury. In another move, the Coyotes reassigned defenseman Shaun Heshka to their American Hockey League affiliate in San Antonio. (Updated 11/25/2009).

| Fantasy Analysis |
Now that Jovanovski is active and healthy, he is safe to instert back into lineups as a viable Fantasy blueliner. Michalek just a low-end Fantasy option and flier in leagues that reward heavily for defensive stats when healthy. Heshka does not need to be owned in any Fantasy format. (Updated 11/25/2009).

| Nobody in the NHL sacrificed his body more in 2008-09 than Coyotes defenseman Zbynek Michalek. The Czech native led the NHL with 271 blocked shots and probably bruises as well. He did his best to help Phoenix win games, unfortunately, the Coyotes still finished near the bottom of the league. Michalek had one of his more successful campaigns in '08-09. He totaled six goals and 27 points in 82 games but finished with a minus-13 rating. He did log more than 200 minutes of a short-handed time for a fourth straight season. Michalek has 20 or more points in three of his last four seasons with the Coyotes and continues to be one of the team's top two-way defenders. He has low-end Fantasy appeal in standard formats, but is definitely worth a look in leagues that reward heavily for short-handed stats. (Updated 8/17/09) |
