| It was a tale of two seasons for Patrick Sharp in 2008-09. After recording a career-high 36 goals and 62 points in 2007-08, Sharp came out of the gate last season with a mission to show everyone he can be a consistent scoring threat. Sharp had six or more goals in the first three months and 19 goals in 34 appearances. It then went south as soon as the calendar year hit 2009. Sharp had just three goals in 14 January games and eventually exited the lineup for a 16-game stretch starting in mid-February because of a knee injury. He would miss the final five games of the regular-season battling a setback with the injury before returning for the start of the playoffs. He finished the season with 26 goals and 44 points in 61 games. He tied his career-high with nine power-play scores, but didn't record one short-handed tally after having a career-best seven the year before. In fact, he logged just 44 minutes of short-handed time under new head coach Joel Quenneville. Sharp seemed to find his rhythm again in the playoffs with seven goals and 11 points in 17 games, so there is hope his confidence will be restored heading into 2009-10. Consider Sharp more of a No. 4 or No. 5 Fantasy forward Draft Day. (Updated 8/17/09) |
