Michalek has two-point night: Senators RW Milan Michalek scored a goal, tallied an assist and finished at plus-1 on Thursday against the Canucks. Michalek opened the scoring with a power-play goal 1:34 in. Daniel Alfredsson faked a shot before dishing off to Alexei Kovalev, who held the puck before feeding a pass to the slot which Michalek redirected past Andrew Raycroft for his 19th of the season. | Fantasy Analysis |
Michalek has recorded three goals and two assists in seven games since returning from a concussion. It seems the injury has actually awoken some dormant offensive skills that plagued Michalek during a scoring slump in December. Until Michalek ramps up the multi-point efforts, he remains a low-end Fantasy start. (Updated 02/05/2010).

| For Fantasy purposes, we are glad Milan Michalek is nothing like his brother Zbynek, a standout defenseman for the Coyotes. Zbynek has decent offensive skills for a blueliner, but he rather give up his body for the sake of the team than score goals. While Milan does have a bit of a mean streak in him on the defensive end, he does his best work by putting the puck in the back of the net. The Sharks went 17-2-1 in 2008-09 when Michalek scored a goal. He was fifth on the team with 23 goals and tied for 20th in the NHL with six game-winning scores. Michalek finished with his third straight 20-goal season as he totaled 57 points. Michalek also has 30-plus assists for three years straight, as well as 50-plus points and a rating better than plus-11. In fact, Michalek has not finished below even in his first five seasons. He is a pretty good two-way forward and will once again be a top-six skater in 2009-10, only this time for the Senators. In a surprising move, the Senators acquired Michalek from the Sharks in mid-September in the trade that sent Dany Heatley to San Jose. We are not sure how much of a profound effect the trade with have on the veteran forward, so consider Michalek a No. 5 or No. 6 Fantasy forward. (Updated 9/13/09) |
