Fantasy Analysis
That pretty much amounts to a drop from 25 minutes a night to 22 or 23 for the big defender. As recently as April 10, Dion Phaneuf logged more than 30 minutes of action. Coach Carlyle loves to play a match-up game and will deploy the defender against the opposition's top line come the postseason, so a little rest won't hurt now. And it probably won't hurt your fantasy prospects, either -- he still produces just fine with a little less ice. (Updated 4/23/13).

Yes, he's overrated. And no, he's not nearly as tough as he seemed at the beginning of his career, but Dion is still Dion. He has that big-time shot and he should be solid for a season just like his last -- 40-plus points, including lots on the man advantage with close to 100 PIMs. That's a combo that isn't as common as you might think -- just three defenders (Dion Phaneuf, Kevin Bieksa and Zdeno Chara) topped 40 points and 85 PIMs last season. Toss in 200-plus hits and 100-plus blocked shots, and suddenly he's not so overrated in specialty leagues. (Updated 8/14/12)
