| Fantasy Analysis |
Quincey hasn't done a lot on the offensive end since December. He has one goal and five points in his last 21 games. It's a real shame since Quincey logs a ton of playing time for Colorado and was a top Fantasy option early in the season. Consider Quincey a low-end Fantasy start until he gets back on track. | What is one man's trash is another man's treasure. That pretty much sums up how Kyle Quincey's 2008-09 season turned out. Once Detroit failed to find regular minutes for the 24-year-old defenseman, he was placed on waivers and the Kings immediately swooped in to claim Quincey. It turned out to be one of the best transactions in the NHL last season. Quincey ended up leading Kings defensemen with 38 points, 34 assists and two game-winning goals. His 34 assists were second on the team and tied for 20th among NHL defensemen. He also led the Kings with 27 power-play points (12th among NHL defensemen). The only sour note about Quincey's season is that he missed the last few weeks following back surgery. He is expected to be ready for training camp, but he isn't going to be back with the Kings in 2009-10. Los Angeles parted with Quincey in the trade that brought Ryan Smyth from Colorado. Quincey is now manning a spot on the Avalanche's blue line and will help in the team's reclamation project under first-year coach Joe Sacco. The Avalanche picked up a solid puck-moving defenseman and power-play guru. Still, since he isn't an elite scorer Fantasy owners will want to view him as a No. 4 or No. 5 Fantasy defenseman Draft Day. (Updated 8/17/09) |
