Brown nets two points, plus-2: Kings RW Dustin Brown scored a goal, tallied an assist and finished at plus-2 on Thursday against the Oilers. Los Angeles got on the board with 8:55 remaining, as Brown backhanded a rebound over Jeff Deslauriers after the goalie made the save on Rob Scuderi's long slap shot through a maze of players. It was Brown's 15th goal and second in February. (Updated 02/12/2010).

| Fantasy Analysis |
There were rumors floating around that Brown was part of a package Los Angeles offered to Atlanta in exchange for Ilya Kovalchuk. It's shocking to see L.A. put its captain on the trade market, but that is the current state of hockey. Brown wasn't dealt and appears to be staying with Los Angeles. He remains a decent No. 4 or No. 5 Fantasy forward. (Updated 02/12/2010).

| Dustin Brown has developed into one of the NHL's premier power forwards. The 6-0, 200-pound Ithaca, N.Y., native not only gets it done on the offensive end of the ice, but you better keep your head up when Brown is on the ice because there is a good chance he is going to lower his shoulder right into your sternum. After leading the NHL with a then-record 311 hits in 2007-08, Brown came back with a team-high 285 hits in 2008-09 (third in the NHL). He also wasn't hesitant to shoot the puck as he totaled a career-high 292 shots (eighth in the NHL). Brown put up 24 goals a year after totaling his first 30-goal season, while tying a career high with 29 assists. His best run was from December to February when he posted 15 goals and 33 points in 37 games. Brown was also very clutch leading the Kings with six game-winning goals. The only downside was he finished under even (minus-15) for the fourth straight season. Perhaps if Brown was playing for a top contender that would be different. Brown is a good goal scorer and is a consistent top-six forward, so consider him a decent No. 4 or No. 5 Fantasy forward. He is also worth a look in leagues that reward heavily for hits and short-handed stats. (Updated 8/17/09) |
