Higgins at plus-1 in Calgary debut: Forwards Ales Kotalik and Christopher Higgins made their debuts for the Flames on Wednesday against the Hurricanes after being acquired on Monday from the New York Rangers for Olli Jokinen and Brandon Prust. Neither player had a point but Higgins was plus-1. "I thought they did a good job," said coach Brent Sutter, who put Daymond Langkow at center between the two newest Flames. "I thought that Daymond handled it well playing with two new guys." (Updated 02/04/2010).

| Fantasy Analysis |
Higgins was in a similar situation to Kotalik. He was also brought in during the offseason as a potential scoring force on the wing. Unfortunately, he severely undercut expectations. Higgins had only six goals and 14 points in 55 games with New York. Higgins has been in a career slump since last season and has minimal Fantasy appeal until he starts putting up consistent points. | Christopher Higgins has come home and is looking forward to a fresh start with the Rangers in 2009-10. Higgins, a Smithtown, N.Y., native, was acquired by New York in an offseason trade that sent Scott Gomez to Montreal. While Higgins had a successful tenure with the Canadiens (151 points in 282 games), it ended on a sour note in 2008-09 due to injury. Higgins missed several games with various ailments, the two biggest culprits being groin and shoulder problems. Higgins totaled just 12 goals and 23 points in 57 games, the lowest output in his first four NHL seasons. Higgins had reached 20-plus goals the previous three years. Higgins is not a well-rounded player, but he is a good goal scorer and decent penalty killer. Higgins, who signed a one-year deal with New York, is a low-end Fantasy forward Draft Day. He is also worth a look in leagues that reward heavily for short-handed stats. (Updated 8/18/09) |
