Kesler trying to quiet critics: The Sports Xchange reports Canucks C Ryan Kesler hasn't scored in 10 games, but if his three assists in Saturday night's 7-3 romp over Edmonton weren't enough to quiet his detractors, his one-assist performance in a 4-1 win over Los Angeles the previous game should have. Playing despite suffering a deep cut in his pinky finger during Thursday's morning skate, Kesler not only picked up a point but also blocked a Drew Doughty slap shot in the ribs that was hard enough to leave him spitting up blood. Not only did Kesler not miss a shift, he blocked another Doughty point shot before that one ended, then followed it up by being named the first star in Saturday's lopsided win over the injury-ravaged Oilers. | Fantasy Analysis |
Kesler has four multi-assist games in 2009-10 and a pair of three-assist outings in November. He might not have a score in 10 games, but he has 11 assists in that span. He is also not afraid to sacrifice his body for the sake of the team. Kesler has really come along way offensively the last two seasons and has become a viable start in Fantasy. (Updated 11/29/2009).

| Ryan Kesler became a fan favorite in Vancouver by the end of the 2008-09 season. It was no shock to see he was voted team MVP by the Canucks fans since he developed into arguably the team's top two-way forward. Kesler was a finalist for the Selke Trophy, given to the NHL's top defensive forward, but he really impressed everyone with his development on the offensive end. He had career highs in goals (26), assists (33), points (59), plus-minus (8) and power-play goals (10). He also tied a career-high with two short-handed scores. Kesler did his finest work late in the season when he was promoted from a checking-line forward to top-six duty with Mats Sundin and Pavol Demitra. Kesler totaled 15 goals and 32 points in his final 32 games. Kesler is entering a walk year and seems to have solidified his role among the Canucks' top forwards. However, he is more of a No. 5 or No. 6 Fantasy forward Draft Day with sleeper potential. (Updated 8/17/09) |
