With his 23 points this season, Tyutin should get close to the career-high 34 he put up last campaign, so definitely has some value in deeper leagues when healthy. He looks like a low-risk start for Fantasy Week 19 (Feb. 8-14).

Huet, Blackhawks bounce back with shutout of Blue Jackets
Cristobal Huet got his fourth shutout of the season and the Chicago Blackhawks scored a goal in each period Thursday night to end their modest two-game losing streak with a 3-0 victory against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

| The Rangers kind of shocked the hockey world when they traded Fedor Tyutin to the Blue Jackets in July 2008, just months after signing him to a four-year contract extension. Columbus did pay a steep price by letting go Nikolai Zherdev, but they were thrilled to land a promising young defenseman like Tyutin. The Russian defenseman responded to Columbus' enthusiasm by posting career highs in goals (9), assists (25), points (34), penalty minutes (81) and power-play scores (5). Coach Ken Hitchcock was able to take Tyutin's game to the next level and the 26-year-old defenseman shined in all facets of the game for Columbus. He is expected to be one of their top four defensemen again in 2009-10, but Tyutin remains more of a low-end Fantasy flier Draft Day. He also has value in leagues that reward heavily for PIM and short-handed stats. (Updated 8/17/09) |
