Brodziak having month to remeber: Wild C Kyle Brodziak tallied an assist and finished at plus-1 on Thursday against the Avalanche. He has a season-high eight assists and 10 points in 13 January games.

Finally, we are seeing some reliable production from Brodziak. We came into the season eager to watch Brodziak reunite with his former AHL coach, Todd Richards. Brodziak played well for Richards in the minors and we figured he could be a breakout player in 2009-10. Brodziak didn't have a good first half, but he is finally getting on track in January. Brodziak is still a low-end Fantasy flier but his appeal is growing.

| While new Wild general manager Chuck Fletcher and head coach Todd Richards began making over the roster in the offseason, one deal that likely went unnoticed by many Fantasy owners was the addition of center Kyle Brodziak in a 2009 NHL draft day deal with the Oilers. The trade reunites Brodziak with his former AHL coach -- Richards. The 25-year-old center spent his first two full NHL seasons with the Oilers. He totaled 25 goals and 58 points in 159 games since 2007. He also has two short-handed scores and six game-winning goals in that span. Brodziak proved his worth in the faceoff circle as well. He won 51.6 percent of his faceoffs (489 of 947) in 2008-09. The allure of brining Brodziak to Minnesota is that he already has a firm grasp of Richard's coaching style. Brodziak proved to be quite an asset for Richards in 2006-07, when the two were at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. The 2003 seventh-round pick had 24 goals and 56 points in 62 regular-season games. If Brodziak can produce like that on the NHL level, he is going to be a Fantasy asset in the making. He remains more of a Fantasy sleeper for deeper formats Draft Day. (Updated 8/17/09) |
