Parise's goal clinches win: Zach Parise finished the scoring barrage during Monday's 3-2 win against the Bruins that assured the Devils (41-24-3) their 18th straight .500-plus season. Parise made it 3-0 45 seconds after David Clarkson scored at 17:23. Tim Thomas stopped defenseman Mike Mottau's shot but couldn't control the rebound. Parise found the puck in front and backhanded in his 32nd goal. Parise was pointless in three of four games. (Updated 03/15/2010).

| Fantasy Analysis |
Parise hasn't been totally out of sync since returning from the Olympic break. He does have four goals and three assists in his last seven games. However, the Devils as a team have been a little erratic offensively since Ilya Kovalchuk came in a February trade. That is not what was supposed to happen, but it is what it is. Parise's numbers are still favorable most nights and he remains a must-start option. (Updated 03/15/2010).

Devils victimize Rangers in first home game since Olympics

| All season in 2008-09, Devils forward Zach Parise heard the chants of "MVP, MVP, MVP!" from the New Jersey faithful. Unfortunately, the fourth-year pro didn't make the final cut for the Hart Trophy -- which went to Alex Ovechkin for a second straight season -- but it didn't take away from the banner year the former North Dakota product produced. Parise led the Devils with a career-high 45 goals, 49 assists and 94 points. He was just the fourth player in Devils history to reach 45 goals and the third to achieve 94 points. He also established a franchise record with 364 shots and posted a plus-30 rating, while being just one of five Devils to play in all 82 games. In fact, Parise has missed just two regular-season games in his young career. Parise was solid in all facets of the game, even leading New Jersey with 14 power-play scores and eight game winners. He tied the franchise record with 26 multi-point outings, including three four-point nights. Parise had a season-high 19 points in 14 December games and had a season-high plus-11 mark in 14 January contests. After being a 30-30 player the previous two seasons, Parise took his game to a new level in '08-09. It will be interesting to see his continued progress in 2009-10, now that defensive-minded Jacques Lemaire is behind the bench. There is some cause for concern that Parise won't be as effective offensively, but he is still worth a look as a high-end Fantasy forward coming off his 40-40 year. (Updated 8/18/09) |
