| Fantasy Analysis |
It's a little unusual to see Crosby with more goals (39) than assists (35), but it doesn't make him any less of a Fantasy asset. In fact, he is probably more valuable now since goals usually weigh more than assists in Fantasy. Continue to start Crosby in all Fantasy formats. (Updated 02/07/2010).

| One of the Penguins' top priorities in 2008-09 was keeping star center Sidney Crosby healthy and on the ice. It was mission accomplished despite the fact Crosby gave the team a few scares with minor knee and groin tweaks. But at least he didn't miss several weeks like in the 2007-08 season when he battled a serious ankle sprain. Crosby continued to produce among the top skaters in the NHL. He totaled 103 points in 77 games, which was the third-highest mark in the NHL behind teammate Evgeni Malkin (113) and Washington's Alexander Ovechkin (110). Crosby was also second in the NHL with 70 assists, trailing Malkin's 78. Sid the Kid has totaled 100 points in three of his first four NHL seasons and likely would have four straight had he played more than 53 games in 2007-08. In '08-09, Crosby reached 344 career points in his first 250 games, which ranks sixth all-time in NHL history. The only knock against Crosby is that his scoring has regressed a bit since he totaled a career-high 39 goals as a rookie in 2005-06. But Crosby was instrumental in the Penguins Stanley Cup upset of Detroit last season and continues to be the face of a resurgent franchise. While Ovechkin and Malkin are likely to fly off Fantasy draft boards before Crosby this season, if you land the fifth-year center you aren't going to be disappointed. (Updated 8/18/09) |
