Lundqvist finally looked like himself on Saturday, allowing fewer than two goals for the first time since Jan. 14. Some Fantasy owners have to be wondering if Lundqvist is running out of gas after starting a ridiculous amount of games, but maybe this outing will give them some hope. While Lundqvist has certainly dropped down the Fantasy rankings a bit, he remains worth using in the majority of formats. The Rangers TG goes as Lundqvist does.

| For being a seventh-round selection in the 2000 NHL draft, Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist has turned into a pretty good pro player. It seems all that time he spent playing over in Sweden and honing his skills has helped him translate into immediate success in the NHL. Since coming to North America in 2005-06, Lundqvist has totaled 30 or more wins in his first four seasons and has appeared in 70 or more contests the last three years. He racked up a career-high 38 wins in 2008-09 while enduring a in-season coaching change from Tom Renney to John Tortorella. Lundqvist won 15 times in his first 23 appearances last season before winning just 12 times from December through February. It wasn't entirely his fault because New York was mired in a scoring slump before Tortorella rattled the cages. Lundqvist won 11 of his final 16 regular-season games and didn't have a GAA higher than 2.27 over the final four months. He finished 38-25-7 with a 2.43 GAA, .916 save percentage and three shutouts. It was disappointing to see Lundqvist blank a team just three times last year after netting a career-high 10 shutouts in 2007-08, but there was little else to complain about with the Swedish netminder. New York is expected to contend in the Eastern Conference, so Lundqvist remains a No. 1 Fantasy goalie. The Rangers TG also has high-end Fantasy appeal. (Updated 8/18/09) |
