Canes Recall Peters From Conditioning Assignment
Peters was recall from his conditioning assignment at AHL Charlotte on Wednesday, TSN's Bob McKenzie reports. The Hurricanes decided to bring up Peters before Wednesday's trade deadline in order to avoid using one of their four post-deadline recalls on him. With Anton Khudobin and Cam Ward both signed to multi-year contracts, the Hurricanes could attempt to trade Peters for help on defense or at forward. If Peters remains in Carolina, he'll struggle to see action.

Hurricanes' Peters AHL Bound For Conditioning
Peters was assigned to AHL Charlotte for conditioning work. The Hurricanes are likely just looking to get Peters some work in after he's made just one start over the last month and a half. Overall, Peters has been productive for Carolina when given the opportunity to play regularly, but with Anton Khudobin and Cam Ward ahead of him on the depth chart, he'll have a difficult time finding starts moving forward.
|Justin Peters came on in relief of the injured Cam Ward (MCL) and Dan Ellis (knee) last season and struggled most nights as the team's temporary starting goalie, posting a 4-11-1 record along with a dismal 3.46 GAA and .891 save percentage. This year, with the return of Ward and the arrival of Anton Khudobin as his backup, Peters is looking like the odd man out and should open the season at AHL Charlotte. (Updated 8/12/13) |
