| Fantasy Analysis |
Ryan is once again adjusting to life with Teemu Selanne back in the lineup. Ryan has done his best work over the last two seasons when Selanne has been injured. It's not like Ryan is totally useless when Selanne is active. It's just the scoring chances aren't as prevalent. Ryan is still a good goal scorer and contributor, so he deserves to remain active in most Fantasy formats. (Updated 02/04/2010).

| Bobby Ryan will always be remembered as the player that was taken second overall in the 2005 NHL draft behind Sidney Crosby. But the New Jersey native showed in 2008-09 that he is more than just a trivia question. Ryan had to start the season in the minors because former general manager Brian Burke said it was a "cap issue," but as soon as he was replaced by Bob Murray, Ryan was recalled from Iowa of the AHL in a heartbeat. Ryan scored twice in his second game and the rest became history. He completed the season leading all NHL rookies in scoring (57), goals (31), points-per-game (.89), power-play goals (12), power-play points (23) and shooting percentage (17.8 percent). He established new Anaheim rookie records in goals and points, previously held by Dustin Penner with 29 goals and 45 points. He also tied the rookie record for assists (26), which was held by defenseman Francois Beauchemin. He became the first rookie in club history to have a 20-goal, 20-assist season and was named NHL Rookie of the Month in January (11 goals, five assists). Ryan did most of the damage while playing on the left side of the ice, away from his natural position of right winger. Ryan will likely have to play on the left again in 2009-10 with the return of Corey Perry, Teemu Selanne and the addition of Joffrey Lupul. But he is a special talent and worth owning in most Fantasy formats. (Updated 8/17/09) |
