Fantasy Analysis
The deal, which is reportedly worth $14 million, effectively removes Ladislav Smid's name from consideration for a trade deadline swap. The 27-year-old blueliner possess limited upside on offense, with just three points in 34 games to date, but he does at least chip in fantasy-wise with his PIMs (41), hits (103) and blocks (91). Cam Fowler, Kyle Palmieri and Corey Perry scored to help put the Anaheim Ducks on the brink of clinching the Pacific Division with a 3-1 victory over the Edmonton Oilers in Sunday night.
Ladislav Smid has always been known as a solid, stay-at-home defenseman, but actually had a breakthrough offensive season last year with five goals. That being said, he's not going to see any time on the top power play unit and will be the kind of defender who'll block shots rather than taking them and hit people instead of score. He should lead the Oil in both categories. (Updated 8/14/12)
