Brouwer nets overtime winner: Troy Brouwer scored his second goal of the game 1:37 into overtime to lead the Chicago Blackhawks to a 4-3 victory Thursday night over the San Jose Sharks in a matchup between the NHL's top two teams. Brouwer scored one of three first-period goals for Chicago, which took a 3-0 lead before the midway point of the frame but needed overtime to beat the Sharks for the third time in four meetings. | Fantasy Analysis |
Brouwer has scored in two straight and has five goals in his last seven games. He set a new career high with 27 points on Tuesday and only continues to add to his career high in goals, which now stands at 17. He has been a very versatile forward for Chicago in 2009-10 and has even scored some timely goals, with five game winners. Yet, his presence is far more valuable to the Blackhawks than Fantasy owners. Brouwer remains a low-end Fantasy flier and potential option in leagues that reward heavily for short-handed stats. | Perhaps one of the Blackhawks' top goals in 2009-10 is to make sure Troy Brouwer scores more often. The team went 9-0-0 in 2008-09 when Brouwer lit the lamp. Not such a bad winning percentage. The 24-year-old forward did quite well in his first full season in the NHL. He had to start the year in the AHL with Rockford (collecting eight points in five games) before Chicago felt it was time to bring him to the show full-time. Brouwer ended up appearing in 69 games and finishing second among team rookies (only behind Kris Versteeg) with 10 goals, 16 assists and 26 points. Brouwer also displayed a solid defensive presence, as he was third among all skaters on Chicago and fifth among NHL rookies with 125 hits. Chicago re-signed Brouwer for two years in the offseason, and he will once again provide ample depth among the forwards. Consider Brouwer a low-end Fantasy forward and flier in leagues that reward heavily for short-handed stats. (Updated 8/17/09) |
