Dawes back practicing again: The Calgary Herald reports that Flames LW Nigel Dawes (leg) practiced Monday in a non-contact jersey for the first time since being injured on Jan. 21. "We’ve got to get a few practices under him," coach Brent Sutter said. "How many that is, who knows? It’s a good sign that he’s fully practicing now."

Dawes might be back later this week, but the fact he's still not allowed to take contact yet suggests a post-Olympic return is more likely. When healthy, Dawes only has value in deeper Fantasy leagues.

Crosby scores 30th goal in Penguins' victory over Flames
Sidney Crosby scored his 30th goal of the season early in the first period, and Marc-Andre Fleury made 37 saves in the Pittsburgh Penguins' 3-1 victory over the Calgary Flames on Wednesday.

| Forward Nigel Dawes entered the 2008-09 season with the Rangers hyping him as a top-six forward and pinned for a breakout season as New York tried to make up for the loss of Jaromir Jagr. But Dawes had a disappointing training camp and fell into coach Tom Renney's doghouse very fast. Dawes did show some life in December with four goals, seven points, plus-4 rating and 25 percent goal conversion rate, but it was all downhill from there. Dawes was eventually traded to Phoenix, where he didn't fare much better with no goals, two points and a minus-4 mark in 12 games. Dawes was then placed on waivers in the offseason. Calgary swooped in to sign the 24-year-old forward in hopes he can revive his career north of the border. Dawes totaled 10 goals, 11 assists and a minus-6 rating in 64 games last season. He could be a potential sleeper for deeper Fantasy formats Draft Day, but Dawes doesn't have much Fantasy appeal. (Updated 8/20/09) |
