05/13/2013 22:47 Lundqvist, Rangers blank Caps again to win Game 7
Led by Henrik Lundqvist's 35 saves in a second consecutive shutout, and goals from some unlikely sources, the New York Rangers beat the Washington Capitals 5-0 in Game 7 Monday night to reach the Eastern Conference semifinals.
05/12/2013 19:17 Rangers ride Brassard goal, Lundqvist to Monday Game 7
Henrik Lundqvist stopped 27 shots in earning his seventh NHL playoff shutout, and Derick Brassard scored a second-period goal for the New York Rangers, who stayed alive with a 1-0 victory over the Washington Capitals on Sunday that forced a Game 7 in the first-round series.
05/06/2013 22:28 Rangers edge Capitals, cut series deficit to 2-1
Derek Stepan and Arron Asham both scored tiebreaking goals in the third period for the New York Rangers in a 4-3 victory against the Washington Capitals in Game 3 on Monday night.
Mike Green signed a 3-year, $18.25 million extension with the Capitals in July on the heels of the worst offensive season in recent memory, finishing with seven points in 32 games. Whether that new deal will affect his performance is not yet known but what we do know is Green missed substantial time last year with a groin strain. In fact, Green has not played more than 50 games in either of the last two seasons. Green insists, however, that he will be in good shape as practices start for the 2012-2013 season. The injury concerns are there, but there is definite regression in his statistics; he failed to score a goal after October 22 last year and had little offensive output. If Green stays healthy, the potential is there for a 20 goal, 40 assist season based on previous production. (Updated 8/14/12)
