Neal is up to 42 points on the season, and appears to be over his funk from early January. He was minus-9 last month, which won't have pleased his Fantasy owners, but he's off to a better start in February. Neal remains a viable option in most Fantasy formats.

| While James Neal wasn't one of the NHL's most-ballyhooed rookies heading into the 2008-09 season, by the end of the year he put himself on the map. Neal trailed only Anaheim's Bobby Ryan with 24 goals among rookie skaters. He also tied for second among rookies with a team-high nine power-play scores. He was also 11th with 38 points and third with 171 shots among NHL rookies. Neal proved to be a good two-way forward for the Stars, finishing third on the team with 194 hits. The 2005 second-round pick had little trouble transitioning to the NHL and managed six or more points for four straight months from December to March. Neal should once again be a solid two-way forward for the Stars in 2009-10, but still has low-end Fantasy appeal in standard formats. (Updated 8/17/09) |
