Sekera scores in two straight: Sabres D Andrej Sekera scored a goal, tallied two assists and finished at plus-1 on Friday against the Hurricanes. Sekera tied it for Buffalo with 1:25 to go in the first, scoring his second goal in two games with a slap shot from the point. He has totaled four points in his last two games.

| Fantasy Analysis |
Sekera has played only 31 games this season and has been a healthy scratch plenty. However, coach Lindy Ruff is making it a point to play Sekera more frequently, and if the Czech blueliner keeps scoring he will warrant the PT. Sekera remains a low-end Fantasy flier, but he is a player to keep tabs on.

| Andrej Sekera disappointed a lot of folks, including Fantasy owners, after he slowed down in 2008-09 following a fast start. Sekera posted 10 points -- all assists -- in his first 23 games and was doing quite well playing alongside Jaroslav Spacek. Unfortunately, Sekera's offensive game would wither away. He still finished with career highs in games played (69), goals (3), assists (16) and points (19), but a lot more was expected of the Czech blueliner. Sekera was slowed by an ankle injury in the second half of the season, so he could use that as an excuse. He did finish third on the team with 94 blocked shots, and after losing Spacek to free agency, Buffalo chose to bring back Sekera with a multi-year contract. Sekera is still a young defenseman at 23 years old and has time to develop. However, he remains nothing more than a low-end Fantasy flier Draft Day. (Updated 8/23/09) |
