Blackhawks interested in Wisniewski: The Orange County Register reports the Blackhawks are interested in bringing back defenseman James Wisniewski. A team source told the Register that the Blackhawks have called the Ducks about reacquiring Wisniewski, who was traded to Anaheim with center Petri Kontola in a trade deadline deal last year for Samuel Pahlsson, defenseman Logan Stephenson and a fourth-round pick in the 2009 draft. Chicago defenseman Cam Barker's name has been mentioned as the player who could be dealt for Wisniewski. (Updated 02/07/2010).

| Fantasy Analysis |
Wisniewski is set to become a restricted free agent this summer, so it might be opportunistic for Anaheim to get something in return. But the Ducks are in the playoff hunt and Wisniewski is one of their big contributors from the blue line. Wisniewski has 24 points in 53 games this season. Fantasy owners probably would want him to stay put since Wisniewski would join a crowded blue line in Chicago and could get less scoring chances. (Updated 02/07/2010).

| James Wisniewski didn't step onto the ice during the 2008-09 season until mid-December, when he was finally recovered from a torn ACL. This is typically an injury that takes its toll on most players, but Wisniewski seemed like his old self once he was back in the lineup. He totaled four assists in his first five games with the Blackhawks and had 13 points (two goals) in 31 contests with Chicago until they shipped him to Anaheim at the trade deadline. Wisniewski had little trouble transitioning to his new surroundings. The Ducks went 11-5-1 with Wisniewski in the lineup, and he ranked second among Anaheim defensemen in that span with 11 points (one goal). He had a career-high 21 assists in 48 games and has yet to finish under even in the first four years of his career (plus-24 in 185 games). Also, Wisniewski finished third on the team with 90 hits and fourth with 60 blocked shots despite his limited time. Once the Ducks traded Chris Pronger to Philadelphia in the offseason it allowed the team to re-sign Wisniewski for a year. He is among the team's top four defensemen and arguably their best two-way defender. Wisniewski is a nice low-end option in larger Fantasy formats with sleeper potential. (Updated 8/20/09) |
