Eriksson picked up the goal-scoring pace in the first half of January, but had failed to tally in his previous seven games coming into Saturday. He's already set a new career mark with 31 assists though, and remains worth using in all leagues as a solid starting Fantasy forward. (Updated 02/07/2010).

Marty Turco made 34 saves for his 39th career shutout, rookie Jamie Benn had his first two-goal game, and the Dallas Stars snapped the road-weary Phoenix Coyotes' season-best six-game winning streak with a 4-0 victory Saturday.

Stars overcome two-goal deficit to beat Flames in shootout
Loui Eriksson scored in the third round of the shootout, goalie Alex Auld was perfect in all three rounds, and the Dallas Stars rallied from a two-goal deficit for a 4-3 victory over the slumping Calgary Flames on Wednesday.

| The Dallas Stars were one of the most injury-plagued teams during the 2008-09 season and tragedy struck early in the year when left winger Brenden Morrow suffered a torn ACL just 18 games into the season. Dallas lost one of their top scorers and needed to make up for the loss in a hurry. Enter Loui Eriksson. It's not like the NHL doesn't have enough elite Swedish scorers, but the 6-1, 183-pound Eriksson joined the party in '08-09 as he ended up leading Dallas with 36 goals (12th in the NHL). He became 10th player in Stars history and 27th player in franchise history to record a 30-goal season. He scored the most goals in a season for the Stars since Brett Hull lit the lamp 39 times in 2000-01. Eriksson totaled a season-high nine goals in December and had a season-high 16 points in March. Eriksson played particularly well late in the season with points in five of the last eight games (six points), in 14 of the last 21 (19) and in 18 of the last 29 (25). Eriksson finished with a career-high 63 points. It was his most productive season across the board since entering the league in 2006-07. The bad news for Eriksson is that Morrow is set to return in 2009-10. First-year coach Marc Crawford is definitely going to utilize the Swede's scoring talents, but his numbers could drop. Eriksson is more of a No. 4 or No. 5 Fantasy forward. (Updated 8/17/09) |
