A setback with Darren Helm's injury, suffered two-and-a-half weeks ago in practice, led the Wings to decide to give the 26-year-old an extended rest. He said he feels pretty good and thinks he could get onto the ice right now, but added that that method hasn't worked for him so they're trying a new approach. Also, Helm said there has not been any discussion of having the back operated on this summer. (Updated 5/22/13).

Imagine an NHL without free agency or trades, that once a player is drafted with a team he stays with that team for his entire career. What would the rosters look like?
A lacerated tendon in Darren Helm's forearm ended his season after 68 games last year, while he was on track to approach the 32 points he posted in 2010-11. Much like teammate Justin Abdelkader, Helm's fantasy value is likely limited by his even strength role. As a speedy checker, he matches up well against opposing teams' top line, while his wheels make him an asset capable of scoring goals on the penalty-killing unit as well. Helm had surgery for the injury in April, and is expected to be fully recovered for the start of training camp. (Updated 8/14/12)
