Coach singles out Tambellini: The Sports Xchange reports Islanders C Jeff Tambellini made only his third lineup appearance since Dec. 9 on Thursday in Tampa Bay, replacing injured winger Josh Bailey. Despite playing in just 25 games this season, Tambellini is seventh on the Islanders with seven goals. "I think with Jeff it's playing a complete game, he's got to play in all three zones," coach Scott Gordon said. "Even though he's scored goals, three of them were in one game, and four in the remaining 20 isn't the kind of production he needs to have. We need production from someone like him and if it happens, it's going to make us a better team." (Updated 02/05/2010).

| Fantasy Analysis |
This is nothing new. We have known all along that Tambellini's weakness has been playing a consistent game. We know from his minor-league days that he can score. He just hasn't done it on a consistent basis in the NHL. Tambellini has marginal Fantasy appeal until further notice. (Updated 02/05/2010).

| Jeff Tambellini has been one of the more frustrating prospects the Islanders have dealt with in recent seasons since he came to the team in March 2006 in a trade with the Kings. The 2003 first-round pick and former Michigan standout had little trouble scoring in the minors. In fact, he posted consecutive 30-goal seasons for Bridgeport of the AHL in 2006-07 and 2007-08. But every time the Islanders brought Tambellini to the show, he forgot how to score. New York kept Tambellini with them for most of the 2008-09 season, but the frustrations didn't end. Tambellini was a healthy scratch nine times last season because of his inconsistency and was even sent to Bridgeport on a two-week conditioning stint to see if that could spark his game. It helped a little down the stretch as Tambellini had nine points (five goals) in his last 20 games, but the 2009-10 season is definitely make or break for the former first-rounder as he heads into a walk year. Tambellini, who had 15 points and a minus-20 rating in 65 games last season, remains just a low-end Fantasy flier on Draft Day. (Updated 8/18/09) |
