Blue Jackets keep LaCosta in fold
(7/28/09) The Blue Jackets re-signed goalie Dan LaCosta to a one-year, two-way contract Tuesday. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
LaCosta going back to AHL
(2/13/09) With G Steve Mason clear of mono, the Blue Jackets have sent G Dan LaCosta back to the AHL.
LaCosta posts first career shutout
(2/10/09) Dan LaCosta made 31 saves -- including a toe stop on Marek Svatos with seconds remaining -- for his first career shutout in his second NHL start as the Columbus Blue Jackets beat the Colorado Avalanche 3-0 on Tuesday. LaCosta, who won his first start Saturday, a 3-2 overtime decision over Western-Conference leading San Jose, played again because rookie Steve Mason is out due to mononucleosis. Regular backup Wade Dubielewicz has the flu.
LaCosta earns himself another start
(2/8/09) The Columbus Dispatch reports Blue Jackets rookie goalie Steve Mason was put on injured reserve late Saturday because of mononucleosis. Mason, who has missed the last two games, was unable to finish practice Saturday, prompting the roster move from Columbus. The Calder Trophy candidate couldn't make it through the 25-minute morning skate and the setback raises questions as to whether Mason is past the worst part of the virus. "Throughout the day I feel better," Mason said. "It's just on the ice when I'm exerting myself for periods of time that I feel fatigued and dizzy. Hopefully, this is done and over with by the middle of (this) week." Coach Ken Hitchcock said Sunday that fellow rookie goaltender Dan LaCosta will make his second consecutive start Tuesday against the Avalanche after making 28 saves during Saturday's 3-2 win against the Sharks. Mason is not expected back until Friday against the Red Wings at the earliest.
LaCosta beats top team in debut
(2/7/09) Sharks G Dan LaCosta made 28 saves in his first NHL start and the Blue Jackets beat the Sharks 3-2 in overtime on Saturday night to end a three-game losing streak. LaCosta was recalled on Friday on an emergency basis with starter Steve Mason -- second in the NHL with a 2.09 goals-against average -- sidelined by mononucleosis, and recently acquired backup Wade Dubliewicz out with the flu after losing 4-1 at Pittsburgh on Friday night.
