| Fantasy Analysis |
Letang had his best month of the season in January, with two goals and seven points in 15 games. He starts February on the right foot. Letang had a pretty good second-half surge in 2008-09 and it appears as though he is on the same path. He is once again getting some time alongside Sergei Gonchar and that is great for Letang's development. Scoop Letang up in Fantasy before it's too late. (Updated 02/01/2010).

| While Pittsburgh envisioned great things from defenseman Kris Letang in 2008-09, their expectations were taken up a notch when defensemen Ryan Whitney and Sergei Gonchar were placed on injured reserve in the preseason. The Penguins tabbed Letang as the guy capable of picking up the offensive slack, following a career-high 17 points in his first full NHL season in 2007-08. Unfortunately, Letang didn't find his offensive groove until both Whitney and Letang returned to the lineup. Letang received a serious wake-up call when he was benched for a few games in February after coach Dan Bylsma replaced Michel Therrien behind the bench. Letang then got his act together and finished the season with 14 points (five goals) in his final 19 regular-season games. He also had 13 points (four goals) in 24 playoff games and benefited tremendously from the tutelage of Gonchar. Letang posted 10 goals, 23 assists and 33 points in 74 games, all career highs. He also was fifth on the team with 111 hits and fourth with 127 blocked shots. Letang continues to develop as a two-way player and has a ton of motivation heading into a walk year. He might be lingering as a No. 4 or No. 5 Fantasy defenseman Draft Day, but don't be afraid to reach for the burgeoning blueliner. (Updated 8/18/09) |
