When Dubinsky put up 40 points in his rookie season of 2007-08, many had high expectations for the now 23-year-old. Now it looks like that might be about his ceiling. He remains a low-end Fantasy start until he starts to put up points on a consistent basis. (Updated 02/03/2010).

Week 17 Fantasy Hockey Planner
Plenty of developments from around the league as the Olympic break draws closer. Will Jose Theodore continue his hot play of late? Just one topic that our Michael Hurcomb touches on in his latest Fantasy Planner.

| There was a lot of hype building around Rangers center Brandon Dubinsky heading into 2008-09 after he came on late as a rookie in 2007-08. Billed as a potential future top-line center, New York was expecting Dubinsky to take the next step in '08-09. He came out of the gate on fire with four goals and 12 points in 13 October games. Dubinsky appeared on his way to NHL stardom. However, Dubinsky's season took a quick 180 turn. He struggled to put points on the board the rest of the way and disappointed Fantasy owners after he was a hot addition at the beginning of the year. While Dubinsky had a career-high 28 assists and 41 points, a lot of folks dubbed it a lost season. But maybe we are just looking at Dubinsky in the wrong light. He proved to be a very effective two-way forward last season. He was third on the team with 112 penalty minutes, second with 251 hits and first with a 53.6 faceoff winning percentage (466 for 870). Dubinsky has offensive potential, but maybe he is just not a guy to challenge for the scoring title. View Dubinsky as a low-end Fantasy forward Draft Day with added appeal in leagues that reward heavily for faceoff and defensive stats. He is a restricted free agent, but barring any unforeseen circumstances, he should return to New York and possibly start on the top line with free-agent addition Marian Gaborik. (Updated 8/18/09) |
