Mitchell has no goals and one point in his last seven games. In fact, he has only four points in his last 17 games. Mitchell missed six weeks with a lower-body injury and has been very rusty since returning. He has minimal Fantasy value until further notice.

| Despite having a strong work ethic and knack for scoring, John Mitchell couldn't earn a promotion to the NHL until coach Ron Wilson arrived in Toronto last season. Thanks to a strong training camp, Wilson put Mitchell on the Maple Leafs roster and the 24-year-old center lived up to his coach's expectations. Mitchell, who was in the minors from 2004-08, missed just six games as a rookie while posting 12 goals and 29 points. He did finish with a minus-16 mark, but Mitchell performed better than his numbers indicated as a lower-line center. He won 48.7 percent of his faceoffs (326 for 669) while finishing seventh on the team with 88 hits. Mitchell did really well down the stretch after Dominic Moore was traded to Buffalo. Mitchell earned a promotion to the scoring lines and posted 10 points (seven goals) in his last 19 games. He even had a pair of two-goal games as a rookie. Mitchell is not an elite offensive forward, but he definitely has found a niche in Wilson's system. Consider him a low-end Fantasy option in larger leagues. (Updated 8/24/09) |
